Dr. Alexandra Wennberg is focused on research in neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular interest in Alzheimer’s disease. She received a PhD from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (2015) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Mayo Clinic (2015-2018).
Her past work has focused on the associations between type II diabetes and dementia, blood based markers for dementia, and functional aspects of dementia. Her current focus pertains to the role of sleep in dementia. Evidence suggests that sleep has a bidirectional relationship with dementia, that is, it is both a risk factor for development of dementia and is often disrupted in dementia patients, leading to poorer prognosis. However, little is known about sleep in varying forms of dementia, and how it might impact quality of life and cognitive and neuroimaging outcomes.
